My cousin is looking at an 05' V50 2.4i for his wife. He's wondering the do's, dont's? What to look out for? Any years to stay away from?

Website will be going down soon, likely, but I can answer this. They are generally good cars. Common issues are alternator failure, a/c clutch wear and the compressor kicking off when hot(can remove shims to restore proper clutch clearance and operation), timing belt and major service are due at 120k miles(belt at 10 years if low mileage car). Control arm bushings in the front suspension can wear, struts are relatively common as well. Sunroof drains can get plugged up and even the tubes pop off causing them to drain directly into the interior and drench the 3+ inches of foam under the carpet.

Otherwise, they are pretty great cars! I would buy one, less problems than the other Volvos in general.
